Surf Museum

In “Surf City”, aka Huntington Beach, the International Surfing Museum has been sharing the history and the spirit of the sport since its founding in 1987. Over the years, it has hosted surfers and enthusiasts from around the globe who come to the small museum to see the remarkable collection of memorabilia and share stories.

In need of more space and a more visible home, the museum is making plans to move to a new location. As the anticipated move requires new monies, the museum engaged Withee Malcolm Architects to create a concept design that could be used for fundraising. The design team developed a standout beachside building that plays with surfing iconography including surfboard columns and splashy metal waves. The planned four-story building will house the museum’s collections on the first floor and corporate apartments on the second through fourth floors.
