Pacifica

Located within the “Promenade” district of downtown Long Beach, Pacifica is a half block from the light rail line connecting Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles. A public-private venture with the City of Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, the building is part of a comprehensive, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use redevelopment area, slated to include residential, retail, and restaurants.

Challenged to develop an urban presence along the active connector, the architecture features classic materials with a contemporary, civic expression that includes quality stone and pre-cast panels at the high traffic, high visibility street-level. Facades for the retail shops are fronted by roll-up glass doors allowing free-flowing commerce between the indoor spaces and outdoor seating on the promenade.

The contemporary design responds to its port city locale with an industrial- maritime sensibility: a blue/grey palette, bay windows of corrugated metal, balconies detailed with steel handrails and sandblasted glass corners.
